Students in actuarial science should comprehend the fundamental theory of mathematics, finance, insurance, investment, social security, life insurance and non-life insurance actuarial science, possess strong mathematic abilities, capable of quantitative analysis and are able to reflect to the current national development status. They should also master the actuarial theory and business knowledge systematically, understand the application of actuarial science in the field of insurance, observe the theory and field practice of global actuaries and risk management of insurance companies, acquire basic understanding of the development tendency of the fields involved in studies, and obtain strong problem analysis and problem solving skills and basic research abilities. Students should be familiar with the relevant insurance laws, regulations, strategies and policies and attain a comprehensive knowledge of law, financial analysis and fundamental theory of financial management for insurance companies. They should master the necessary computer and internet techniques and become adept at using relevant computer software especially in face of data processing. Master one foreign language, pass the national CET-4 examination, capable of reading foreign professional text, periodicals and other information, attain the ability to listen, speak and write in a foreign language and understand English professional courses.

Students are required to have certain physical and military knowledge, understand the basic scientific skills for physical exercise, form a healthy habit concerning exercise and hygiene, receive military training, reach the national standards of health condition for university students and thus possess a healthy body and mind capable of fulfilling the obligations of national construction and protection. Students should keep an open mind in business practice, have good cooperation skills and at the same time maintain the ability to conduct research, make decisions and carry out business tasks independently.
